Reach Your Goals with Personal Training

Posted on: March 10th, 2014

Working with a personal trainer is one of the best ways to improve your quality of life.  A personal trainer’s job is to help his/her clients build strength & endurance, increase bone density, and potentially lose excess body fat.  There are lots of additional benefits of personal training such as disease prevention, weight loss, and enhancing your self-image.

Why do we hire personal trainers?  We all have our individual reasons but some of the most common are education, aesthetics, enjoyment, or escapism.  Accountability is an added benefit.   Keeping that appointment with the trainer will keep you on track for success.

Whether you are a high-performance athlete, a stay-at-home mom, or a senior citizen, personal training can guide you to a healthier, more fulfilled life.  Your trainer will discuss your goals and customize a plan based upon your unique needs and aspirations.

Your trainer will design a resistance training workout based upon the health and skill parameters that you want to train on.  Health related parameters include cardiovascular/muscular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility.  Skill related parameters include balance, coordination, agility, speed, and power.

A personal trainer’s key responsibility is to make sure you do each exercise correctly, effectively, and safely.  Your trainer will help you find the optimal positioning for each movement based upon your own personal fitness level and exercise performed.  You will learn to master each exercise.  Selecting the right exercise and level of difficulty is also crucial. Too advanced of an exercise can lead to injury.

In addition, your trainer will help you find the inner strength and dedication to be successful.  Results may come slowly for some, so encouragement is needed to push through those tough spots.  Personal trainers are masters at helping you develop the mindset necessary to meet your goals.

Healthy Holiday Tips

Posted on: December 27th, 2013

With the Holidays upon us, there will be lots of stuffing…your bellies! Here are some tips to help you be more careful with your eating during the holidays.

  1. Exercise at the start of your day.  Starting your day with exercise helps you focus on your fitness as well as making sure you get it done instead of making excuses throughout the day.
  2. Drink lots of water! Of course this is always a must on a daily basis, but it’s especially important to keep your metabolism moving and to stay hydrated. Water will also keep your body feeling a little fuller and not as hungry.
  3. Plan your meals and snacks for the day. Think about three smaller meals and snacks to start a slow day of eating. Small meals will keep your metabolism running and help prevent overeating at dinner.
  4. Choose smaller portions and better choices at dinner. You can try everything but have smaller portions. Here are some easy substitutes: grain rolls instead of white, sweet potatoes instead of baked potatoes, green vegetables instead of carrots or corn, PUMPKIN PIE over fruit or pecan pie, and if you’re baking casseroles use a soup base instead of cream. Remember smaller portions with leftovers too!
  5. Walk! Try to walk or move before your dinner and after. Start a new tradition and move with your family on a holiday. If it’s cold outside play an interactive game indoors or get creative, try some jumping jacks, marching in place, dancing, or some yoga.  Fight the food induced nap after dinner from the overdose of carbs and fat and get moving.
  6. Be Thankful! We’re thankful for you and we hope you’re thankful for plenty this holiday season, especially your health!

Increase Your Exercise Productivity

Posted on: March 8th, 2013

We all have periods where our body just won’t budge. We know we have quite a ways to go before reaching a healthy weight or slimming our midsection.  We are motivated but stuck at a weight-loss plateau.  At such times, our bodies need a major jump start.

Many of us are not interested, nor have the time to run a 10 K or spend hours at the gym.  A number of us have an aversion to long cardio sessions on the treadmill or elliptical.

So what is the fastest way to push your body into a fat-burning state?  Metabolic circuit training may be just what your body needs.  This form of conditioning combines both strength and high intensity exercises which are preformed back to back with little or no rest in between.  Such intensity forces the body’s energy systems to increase the metabolic and hormonal responses needed for recovery.  The best part is the after-burn which can last for hours following the workout.

Metabolic circuit training is a great way to increase strength, build muscle mass, and improve cardiovascular endurance.  This type of training can decrease the percentage of body fat effectively and in a very short period of time.  Three, thirty minute metabolic workouts per week is all it takes to create a lean, strong body.

The typical long aerobic workout followed by resistance training has now become a thing of the past.  So, say goodbye to long duration cardio workouts and maximize your exercise productivity with metabolic circuit training.

As with any exercise, you get out of it what you put into it.  Real results demand real effort!
